  14. The file MPEGVU.EXE is a self-extracting ZIP file (PKZIP 2.04g) that
  15. contains the Xingit! Runtime Video Player for IBM 386/486 PC compatibles.
  16. Xing grants you the right to reproduce and distribute the Xingit! Runtime
  17. Video Player under the following conditions:
  18.  
  19. 1 You may distribute copies of the entire original archive file AS
  20.   ARCHIVED by Xing Technology with its authorized authentication code
  21.   (you may change the file extension to .ZIP or .EXE as desired);
  22.  
  23. 2 You may distribute it only in conjunction with and as part of a video
  24.   clip--not as part of any operating system, application program, or
  25.   on a stand-alone basis--and for the sole purpose of playing back such
  26.   video clips.

  29. instructions for:
  30. - installing the Xingit! Runtime Video Player;
  31. - starting the Xingit! Runtime Video Player;

  35. INTRODUCING XING TECHNOLOGY

  37. Xing Technology Corporation, is an active participant in the international
  38. committee that established and defined the JPEG and MPEG standards. Xing
  39. develops, licenses, and applies data compression technology to multimedia
  40. communications solutions. The company's products enable OEM's, developers
  41. and end-users to integrate words, sound, still and moving pictures into
  42. cost-effective PC-based business, education and training tools.

  59. INSTALLING THE XINGIT! RUNTIME VIDEO PLAYER

  61. 1 Open the Windows Program Manager and choose "Run" from the "File" menu.
  62.  
  63. 2 Type "D:\SETUP"( if CD-ROM Disc on drive D) and click the "OK" button. MPEG
  64.   Movie Player setup program start.
  65.  
  66. 3 Add the pathname of the installation directory to your environment's
  67.   PATH variable.

  70. STARTING THE XINGIT! RUNTIME VIDEO PLAYER

  72. The Xingit! Runtime Video Player includes a Windows MPEG Player (DMFW.EXE),
  73. a DOS MPEG Player (MPEG.EXE), and MCI and AVI drivers for video playback
  74. from compatible Windows applications.
  75.  
  76. NOTE: This version of the Xingit! Runtime Video Player can not play MPEG
  77.       files containing interframes ("B" and "P" frames) or interleaved
  78.       MPEG audio data. Version 1.2 of Xingit! will support MPEG files
  79.       containing interframes and interleaved MPEG audio.

  81. 4 Double-click the "Xingit Player" icon to start the program.
  82.   The XingIt! player appears.
  83. You can now use the Xingit! Player as described in the programs' on-line
  84. help.

  86. To run the DOS version of the player (MPEG.EXE), change to the directory
  87. that contains the MPEG.EXE program and issue the following command:
  88. > MPEG MPEGFILENAME.MPG
  89.   Where "MPEGFILENAME" is the name of an MPEG video file.
  90. To see a complete usage description, issue the following command:
  91. > MPEG

  93. To install the MCI and AVI drivers, run the XMCIAVI.EXE program that
  94. resides in the runtime player directory, and read the MCIDOC.WRI file
  95. for futher instructions.

  98. BOOSTING VIDEO PLAYBACK PERFORMANCE
  99. The Xingit! Runtime Video Player uses a Windows Bitmap driver to communicate with your
  100. PC's video hardware and quickly playback video data on your computer's monitor.
  101. This Device Independent Bitmap (DIB) driver is active by default, so the Player
  102. works with any Windows-compatible video hardware. To achieve even faster playback
  103. of video sequences you can disable the DIB driver and use one of Xingit's direct
  104. drivers. These high-speed drivers communicate directly with many popular video
  105. boards.

  107. To disable the Xingit! Player's DIB driver and select a direct driver:
  108. 1 Make sure "Use DIB" item is unchecked in the Player's "View" menu.
  109. 2 Choose an appropriate entry from the "Video Driver" item in the Player's
  110.   "View" menu.
  111.    If the player recognizes your PC's video driver, it displays your driver's
  112.    name at the bottom of the "Video Driver" menu with the label "Detected."
  113. 3 Choose "Save Xingit! Preferences" from the "Preferences" menu.

  115. The following direct video drivers are currently provided with the Xingit!
  116. Player (actual compatibility has not been tested with all of the listed
  117. boards and is assumed):

  146. If your PC's video driver does not appear in this list, you must use
  147. one of Xingit!'s device independent bitmap (DIB) driver.
  148.  
  149. NOTE FOR USERS WITH COMPAQ Q-VISION VIDEO
  150. The Xing Video drivers embedded within MPEG320.DLL & MPEG160.DLL
  151. are compatible for operation with the Compaq Advanced VGA, with which
  152. QVision boards are backward compatible. But, you cannot use
  153. QVision Windows drivers with our video file. Rather you must ensure
  154. that the Advanced VGA driver is installed for the QVision adapter board.
  155.  
  156. 1 The Windows video driver installed via the windows SETUP icon should
  157.   first be changed to the CPQAVGA.DRV driver. If this cannot be done
  158.   within the SETUP program of Windows, you must accomplish this by
  159.   manually editing the SYSTEM.INI file:
  160.     Look in SYSTEM.INI and locate the parameter
  161.       display.drv=QVISION8.DRV
  162.     and change it to
  163.       display.drv=CPQAVGA.DRV
  164.   Using the display driver disk supplied by COMPAQ, locate the file
  165.   CPQAVGA.DRV and copy it to the \SYSTEM subdirectory of your \WINDOWS
  166.  
  167. 2 Using the COMPAQ supplied utility program CPQSETUP.EXE it will be
  168.   necessary to assure that the D/A converter (DAC) is selected to 8-bit
  169.   operation.

  171. 3 Within the Xingit! Player program, use the menu to select
  172.   the Xing Video driver for Compaq
  173.     select:   View - Video Driver - Compaq AVGA.
